they are worth it

I love writing Blogs because it is a time to be creative and to think about things in a different way.

February is one of my favorite months of the year.  It is the time of year we celebrate Valentine’s Day.  Now some may say that it’s just a way the card people make money or it’s only for lovers, etc.

But I think that Valentine’s Day is a time when we are able to let people know they are loved.  I just went out and brought over 50 valentine’s cards.  They are sitting by my chair in the living room and over the next few days I will be writing personal notes on each one and mailing them to people.

You might ask how do I chose who gets these cards?  First my family all get a valentine.  Then my next group is the young women who lived with me over the years.  As long as I have their address, they are going to get a valentine.  The next group is just people that I feel could use a little extra love.

As most of you know one of the loves of my life is to go to the Water Street Mission and do devotions for the ladies who are staying there.  Again, February and Valentine’s day is a special time.  The red envelopes and the cards with a note mean so much.

It is true the entire room, (usually about 50 women) are all getting cards, but the point is they have their own card.  Having something that is just for us makes us feel special.

Can you remember a time in your life when something someone did for you made you feel special?  Jimmy, my husband, always brought me more than one Valentine.  He learned how to do that from my father who always got my mother 2-3 Valentines.  Why did my dad do that?

My mother had been an orphan and so my father spent his life making my mother feel loved in so many ways and Valentines were one of those special ways.

I also got Valentines and have a box in my basement full of them.  (Smile)

In Psalm 44:26 it talks about love.  “Rise up and help us; redeem us because of your unfailing love.”

Let’s all look for ways to show love to each other and to those who do desperately need it.
