May is a wonderful time of year. As I drive around my neighborhood, people are out planting their flowers, mowers can be heard and mulch is going down in yards.
It is spring.
Years ago, when my father died, I was given a small plant in a small pot. It was a gift from someone he had influenced as a pastor and they wanted me to have something in my father’s memory. Of course my mother received lots of flowers. I was surprised that I personally got a plant, but was very grateful.
I kept the plant and since I like to give life to all things, I decided to name the plant. I named him Bruce. Now don’t ask me why I decided to give the plant a name or why I chose the name Bruce. I have other plants, but he is the only one with a name.
Well, I think that Bruce decided to show his stuff, maybe because he had a name!
As time went on, I kept having to change pots because Bruce decided to outdo himself. Today his pot is so big we have to use a hand truck to take him from the back porch when winter comes and to then return him to the outside when spring is in the air.
We just moved “Bruce” to the outside on our screen porch. I think I heard him say “thank you” – just kidding.
Our entire family – three generations – all call him Bruce. He’s like a member of the family.
Now you may wonder why I am blogging about “Bruce.”
Bruce is a constant reminder to me what it means to be steadfast. I want to be a steadfast servant of God.
He always lives one day at a time.
He lives life to his fullest no matter what the temperature.
He trusts his creator to provide everything He needs.
He is always growing.
One final thought – in spite of all God does to bless Bruce’s growth, I have to do my part. I have to make sure that he has the nourishment he needs to flourish.
I pray as you see the flowers and the beauty of spring that you will celebrate your life. God gives us each a number of days. I want to be a Bruce and grow and grow in my love for Christ and for others.
Be blessed my dear friends. We can all make a difference if we just bloom where we are planted.
