I love February because it is the month for Valentine’s Day, and it is also my birthday month.
Since this month celebrates love, I want to celebrate three amazing men in my life.
My father was a mild man who was very poetic. I have so many of the poems that he wrote and I love them all. He loved my mother in a gentle quiet way. Having been an orphan, she had never had a Christmas tree so Christmas was a big deal at our house.
He always gave her 3-4 Valentine’s cards. I loved watching her open them. He later told me it was to make up for all the years she did not have love. He would dance with me to classical music, and I would stand on his shoes. I called him Poppy.
My grandfather though miles away sent me letters regularly as a child. He always drew pictures on them. I have an old cigar box that I keep them in.
I wanted to find a man like my grandfather and dad. Then came Jimmy. He was such a gift to me and loved me more than words could say. Because I was so deeply loved and cherished, I am able to love others.
We need to fill our homes with love and celebration. There are so many challenges in the world and in our daily lives LOVE is a key to success.
Our Heavenly Father sent Jesus to us as a gift of love. Jesus loved us so much he died for us.
“For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten son that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
So this month as we open our eyes each morning, let’s think about ways to love: a kind word, a note, an email, a call or even a visit.
Tom and Donna are very good friends. Donna is my prayer partner. Every year since Jimmy’s death they have taken Shelly, my mentally challenged daughter, and me out to dinner on Valentine’s Day. What a wonderful gift of love.
I send a valentine to all my girls who have lived with me. Many of them are now in their fifties, and I want them to know I love and think about them.
Look for a way to give love this month – let’s celebrate LOVE!
